Job Offer Verification Checklist
For jobseekers reviewing an offer
Before accepting a position, review the offer against the checks below. This educational checklist cannot authenticate a particular employer or guarantee that an offer is genuine. If someone pressures you to pay, share credentials or act immediately, independently verify the employer through official contact details.
Job offer checks
Independently verify the legal employer, recruiter, role, pay terms, work location, working hours, documented conditions and any international travel requirements before accepting.
Never disclose a PIN or one-time password, and verify requests for advance payments through official channels.
Confirm who is offering the job
Check the legal employer name, business domain and office details independently. Use official channels found through your own research rather than numbers included only in an unsolicited message. Watch for domains that imitate a real employer with extra letters or unusual endings.
- Contact the employer using an independently verified number or website.
- Check that the recruiter and role can be confirmed by the employer.
- Never share one-time passwords, bank PINs or remote-device access.
Read the written terms
A usable offer should clearly describe the role, location, compensation components, pay cycle, working hours and employment type. Understand any probation, notice, deductions and benefit conditions before you accept. Ask for clarification in writing when wording is unclear.
- Compare the written salary and job location with what was discussed.
- Ask how variable compensation, deductions and reimbursements work.
- Retain your own copies of signed documents and conversations.
Check travel, visa and payment requests
International moves require additional attention. Requirements depend on the destination, occupation and sponsoring employer. A recruiter cannot independently guarantee a visa or a government approval; verify these matters through authoritative government sources.
- Check the relevant embassy or immigration authority for current rules.
- Question advance fees, urgent transfers or requests to use personal payment accounts.
- Do not hand over original identity documents without understanding the purpose and lawful process.
If something feels wrong
Stop before sending money or sensitive documents. Preserve messages, payment instructions and written offers, then speak to the employer through a channel you independently trust. Report suspected fraud using the applicable official reporting channel in your location.
- Pause if the offer promises unusually high pay with no interview or checks.
- Independently confirm the employer, role and written terms.
- Seek qualified advice on employment and immigration obligations when needed.
